Piemonte

Piedmonte is a region of northern Italy at the foot of the Alps towards Switzerland and France. That's exactly why Piedmont means "At the foot of the mountains". The largest city and capital of the region is Turin. In Turin, the ancient Roman city, you will find the famous Mole Antonelliana. Torino is also known as little Paris because of its distinctive French style, its old cafes, large squares, and its elegant baroque buildings from the 18th century. Turin is an ancient royal city, so many of the shopping streets are covered with arches, so the royal people did not get wet in the rain.  So if you experience a rainy day on your holiday, an excursion to Turin is a good option.

The region is known for the wines from Barolo, Barbaresco , Barbera d'Alba, Barbera d'Asti, truffles, nuts for nutella production and much more.

In Piedmont you will experience the beautiful mountain scenery, the vineyards, the aromatic truffles, and some of the best wines in the world. A holiday in Piedmont means staying in the heart of the Nebbiolo grape region, of which some of the best wines in Italy are made - and in the world: Barolo and Barberesco. But do not forget the Barbera grape, which is great for all Italian food, and is also the best selling red wine (grape) due to price, quality and that it's easy to drink. So book some visits with local wine growers.

With the world famous Piedmont wines, you will offcours find a lot of good restaurants - and most, if not all - are simple and incredibly tasty. Restaurants are available in all prices levels, but generally a somewhat lower price level than other places in Europe. We can always recommend the local Trattorias, where price and quality are top. Dining places that use the word "Restaurante" in their name are typically a bit more expensive. If you are in Piedmonte during the period from mid-October to December, the be sure to taste the famous and expensive white truffle that is grated over many different dishes and thus contributes to the magic of the food. Also try to book a truffle hunt at a local truffle hunter. But beware, in some places, it is a "staged" experience. In Piedmonte a wide number of cheeses are also produced, so if you like cheese a great experience is awaiting you. Visit by all means the world's largest cheese festival in Bra, which is held every two years.

Piemonte has a beautiful climate, characterized by the nearby Mediterranean Sea. Winter is short and usually cold, giving excellent skiing opportunities in the nearby mountains. The summer is warm and dry. Spring and autumn extend over many months with nice and warm weather. As early as April, temperatures of around 20 degrees can be observed.

From the house it's just over an hour's drive to the coast, so get up early and enjoy a day by the sea and eat at one of the many lovely fish restaurants !!! Drive via the motorway to Genoa. It is much easier than driving through the local landscape.

Monte Rosa and Monte Bianco are the tallest mountains in both Piedmont and the Alps. If you are a fan of skiing and other winter sports, we suggest the Monviso ski resort. Monviso is not only known because of the river Po, the longest river in Italy, that has its source on the northern slopes, but equally because the Monviso mountain is the mountain that appears at the beginning of all Paramount movies. If you prefer to go on excursions, hiking in the Gran Paradiso National Park could be another activity during your holiday in Piedmont.

From the house there is 2½ hours drive to a ski area !!! So get up early and have a day skiing!

So book a holiday in Piedmont and combine this unique wine region with the world famous cuisine, the majestic castles and the small towns located on hilltops. A holiday in Piedmont in Northern Italy is a guarantee of a bombardment of your senses and the experience will get stuck in soul and mind.
