Local Cities​

Acqui Terme: Located 40 km south east. The city is known for its hot springs. Many good restaurants and wine bars as well as some good shops to shop in. Acqui have a very large outdoor public swimming pool.

Alba: Located 30 km west. Alba (30,000 inhabitants) is considered to be the capital of the UNESCO classified Langhe area. Absolutely worth a visit. Almost every Saturday the whole year the town is filled with stalls. Alba is also the focal point of the annual truffle festival.

Asti: Located 30 km north. Asti is the capital of the Asti province, and also far larger (76,000 inhabitants) than other local cities. So a relevant outing for a shopping trip. An medieval festival in the city center is held annually, which should be worth a visit.

Barolo: Located 30 km west. The town that names the "King of wines". Everyone has heard about the city/name, and of course you should also experience the city. But it does not take more than 10 minutes to walk around the entire town....Barolo town is located below the La Morra hill, so remember to climb the top to get a breathtaking view of the landscape.

Canelli: Located 3 km south. A little bigger but still local town. Here are several supermarkets, fish shops, local restaurants and cafes. Canelli is where the production of the sweet dessert wine Asti began hundreds of years ago. But nevertheless, the local wine farmers were envious of the French Champagne, and that's why Canelli today also is known for the production of the Italian Spumante. The large wine producers Gancia, Bosco, Contratto and Il Bosca all come from Canelli and their cellars are all worth a visit. However, Gancia is only open to the public for the annual wine festival in Canelli.

Gavi: Located 80 km east. The city has given nave to the Gavi grape which used for white wine. If you like white wine, Gavi is known to produce some of the best white wines in Piedmont. In Gavi there is a big castle / fortress you can see.

La Morra: Located 30 km west. Next to Barolo probably the most famous wine town in the Barolo area. Small town on top of a larger hill. The view from here beyond the Barolo area is no less than fabulous. The roads up to La Morra are a patch with wine producers, so it's an experience in itself just to get there.

Neive: Located 20 km west. A small cozy town in the Barbaresco wine area, on the road to Alba. A relaxing square with many different restaurants.

Tresio: Located 30 km west. A small cozy town in the Barbaresco wine area near Alba. Especially known for the wonderful restaurant La Ciau del Tornavento.

Piana del Salto: 700m. Located just down the hill from Villa Quercia. The local city where we buy most of our groceries. Supermarket with good assortment of charcuterie and the area's largest selection of wines including many of the top wines from around the world. 2 local restaurants, 1 bar and a discotheque which is open Friday / Saturday during the summer months. In addition, a tennis court you can rent.

Nizza Monferato: Located 13 km east. Not particularly exciting city. But every 3rd Saturday in the spring / summer there is an antique market in the big square of the city. Other days there are other markets. The city has given name to the best Barbera d'Asti appelation which is Barbara d'Asti Superiore Nizza. Typical wines from eur. 20 and up.
